“Smoking is injurious to health”, we simple read, hear or suggest anyone who smokes, but don’t actually work on it. But to create awareness among people about dangerous effects of smoking, it’s important to know what actually happens when you smoke. Here are 9 parts of your body that get affected due to smoking.

Skin in Men –

Smoking has highly negative effects on your skin which aren’t small or ignorable. It affects your confidence badly and the effects are incurable. In addition to premature ageing and flaky dryness, psoriasis and vasoconstriction-induced scarring get introduced as your smoking increases. Also, your skin becomes yellow and ugly staining are the other effects of smoking. 

Lungs –

When your body is exposed to continuous smoke, the normal structure of lungs starts destroying. This increases the risks of causing infections like colds and pneumonia along with possibly incurable conditions like emphysema and lung cancer.

Stomach –

Your stomach also has negative effects of smoking like ulcers, bowel disorders like Crohn’s disease . Further it may give rise to stomach and bowel cancer.

Erectile Dysfunction - 

Smoking can be one of the disastrous causes of your performance in bedroom. Your arteries get narrowed and clogged with fatty deposits which make it harder to get erect. Nicotine also has negative effect on the blood flow of your penis.

Legs –

No doubt smoking has direct effects on your lungs (exercising becomes ridiculously difficult), but it also destroys your blood vessels which partially or completely damage your artery walls leading to peripheral vascular disease (PVD) in the arms as well as legs.

Face –

Your face too gets affected due to smoking as it brings the habit’s effect on your face. You will get wrinkles as well as acne which aren’t curable. Also, your teeth become discolored and weak due to around 4,000 chemicals present in the cigarette.
  

Skin in Women –

In case of women, since the levels of collagen and testosterone are low, the skin becomes thinner after continuous smoking. Also, the factors that come with ageing like wrinkles, dryness and discoloration appear quite early and become permanent on your face.

Fertility –

If a woman is a chain smoker, she won’t be able to conceive early and she is twice likely to become infertile. If a she is pregnant and continues smoking, her baby’s life would be in danger. In addition, menopause stage that starts in women after certain age, starts quite initially in comparison to those women who don’t smoke.

Nails –

There’s deprivation of oxygen in nails, leaving them dry and brittle. It further leads to the increasing risk of fungal infections.

Conclusion –

Smoking is the largest cause of death in the world and there is around two thirds of the smokers that want to quit smoking but find it hard. However, it isn’t all doom and gloom.


But remember you can quit smoking for good, if you don’t smoke for 28 days continuously which is a campaign started in United Kingdom called as Stoptober. So, you can join some campaigns as well as take some medicines that help you to quit smoking.
